An Urban Landscape
This particular project consists of a number of three- and four-storey townhouse blocks, and the buildings are placed randomly on a site previously occupied by a plant nursery. A green garden environment brings cohesion and harmony to the area - filled with big trees and small private gardens between the buildings. An old industrial laundry, lying in the very heart of the area, has been preserved and is now used as an art factory, complete with studio and workshops. There is a well-visited common area right next to the art factory, where the locals and the artists come together.

The industrial and textural expression of the old factory is very fetchingly reflected in the new buildings - here, the façades are made of corrugated Corten steel, aluminium and untreated wood. Both metal types can be re-melted for recycling purposes, if any panels have to be replaced. The façade is provided with sliding exterior shutters, protecting the resident's privacy as well as keeping sunlight from entering, and thereby also providing protection against overheating. The façades, the lush gardens, and the green roofs complement each other perfectly!

Increased Sustainability
In order to give all residents as much freedom as possible to design the interior of their own home, the flats have an open room layout, only divided by the indispensable rooms. The open rooms and façades make it possible to put up partition walls to divide the flat into several small rooms - without sacrificing any precious daylight.

The buildings are classified as class 2015 low energy buildings, making the most of district heating, super energy-efficient windows, and ventilation with heat recovery. Room-sized modular boxes have moved the construction burden from the building site to production. In this way, the construction process was optimized - resulting in low-cost as well as sustainable buildings. On the roofs of the buildings, numerous solar panels have been installed, providing the residents with clean, renewable energy. The private gardens create a green environment for active living - and at the same time, the operating costs are kept low.
